Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Vid2Podcast ("we", "our", "the Service") is a web application that turns YouTube video captions into AI-written summaries and study notes, and reads them aloud using synthetic text-to-speech voices. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how it is stored, and with whom it is shared.

2. Data We Collect

  • Email address — collected when you sign in with Google OAuth. Used solely for account identification and Pro license verification. Stored in our database (Supabase).
  • Google OAuth token — a temporary access token issued by Google. Used only to retrieve your email address at sign-in. Not stored on our servers.
  • Conversion history — video title, YouTube URL, selected language, conversion date, and output mode. Stored in your account to let you access past conversions.
  • Usage counters — number of conversions, AI summary uses, and chat messages per billing period. Used to enforce free-tier limits. Stored locally in your browser and/or in our database.
  • User preferences — language preference, voice gender, and theme settings. Stored locally in your browser only.
  • Transcript text— fetched from YouTube's public API on demand. Sent to our backend for translation and AI processing. Not stored permanently.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your browsing history or track which YouTube videos you watch.
  • We do not store audio files generated by the TTS engine.
  • We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
  • We do not collect payment card details (payments are handled entirely by Polar.sh).

4. How We Use Your Data

  • To authenticate your account via Google Sign-In.
  • To verify your Pro license status and enforce free-tier usage limits.
  • To display your conversion history within the app.
  • To route transcript text to translation and AI services for processing.
  • To improve the reliability and performance of the Service.

5. Data Storage & Security

  • Account data (email, plan, conversion history) is stored in Supabase, a cloud database hosted in the EU/US with encryption at rest and in transit.
  • Browser preferences and usage counters are stored locally in your browser, private to your device and never transmitted to us.
  • All data transmitted between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.
  • We do not have access to your Google password or any Google data beyond your email address.

6. Data Retention

  • Free accounts: conversion history is retained for 7 days.
  • Pro accounts: conversion history is retained for 365 days.
  • You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings page. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
  • Transcript text sent for processing is not stored after the request completes.

7. Data Sharing with Third Parties

We share data with the following third-party services only as necessary to provide the Service:

  • Google OAuth — to authenticate your identity. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — transcript text is sent to generate audio. Google does not use this data for advertising.
  • Google Translate API — transcript text is sent for translation. Data is not retained by Google for this API.
  • Groq AI — transcript text is sent for AI summary and chat. No personal data is included.
  • Supabase — stores your email, plan status, and conversion history. Data is encrypted and stored securely.
  • Polar.sh — processes Pro subscription payments. We receive only your email and payment confirmation. No card data is shared with us.

We do not share your data with any other third parties.

8. Your Rights

  • You can sign out of your account at any time from Settings.
  • You can request deletion of all your data by emailing us or using the delete option in Settings.
  • If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under GDPR including access, correction, and deletion of your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
