Which note format fits which kind of studying
Note formats are not interchangeable — each was designed for a different stage of learning, and using them out of order is why note-taking often feels like wasted effort.

Generated notes are a starting point, not a substitute
There is good evidence that the act of making notes is a large part of why notes work. Generating them skips exactly that effort, which means AI notes are most useful as scaffolding rather than as the finished product.
The workflow that actually helps: generate an outline first so you can see the shape of the material, then watch or read the parts that matter with that structure in mind, then annotate. Flashcards are the exception — recall practice works regardless of who wrote the card, so generated decks are genuinely useful on their own.
For anything you will be examined on, verify the notes against the source. Where captions were automatically generated, a misrecognised technical term will appear in your notes stated as fact.
Where generated notes fit in a real study routine
Notes produced in a second do not produce learning in a second, and treating them as if they do is the usual way this goes wrong.
Evidence on note-taking points consistently at the effort as the mechanism: deciding what matters and rendering it in your own words is what encodes it. Reading someone else's notes — or a machine's — skips that. Notes are an intermediate product. What determines whether the material sticks is what happens after they exist, and that step is easy to skip once a page of neat notes is sitting there looking finished.

That is why flashcards and question sets are worth more per minute than rereading, and why a set of questions generated from a lecture is more useful than a summary of the same lecture even though the summary feels more substantial.
Spacing matters roughly as much. Reviewing the same material briefly across several days beats one long session, and the effect is large enough to survive fairly sloppy scheduling.
A workable pattern for a lecture: outline before watching, questions generated afterwards, and a short review a day later and again a week later. The generated material carries the mechanical load, which leaves the effort where it does the most good — attempting recall rather than assembling pages.
One caution specific to generated study material: check the cards before drilling them. A wrong fact rehearsed on a spaced schedule is memorised as efficiently as a right one.
